Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman not informed of the hold-up, and alerted only by the complaints of subscribers who failed to receive the magazine.

Emma Goldman spoke on the difference between students in the US and Russia in the afternoon to the socialist club of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin. Ben Reitman discussed "The Educator and the Advocate." In the evening she spoke at The Knights of Pythias Lodge, Madison. Alexander Berkman accompanied Anthony Comstock to the office of the District Attorney to inquire about the holding of the January 1910 issue of Mother Earth by the Post Office. Inspector-in-Charge, W.S. Mayer decided that the magazine included nothing legally objectionable. The following morning the New York Times reported that Comstock claimed the incident was a publicity scheme for Mother Earth.

Emma Goldman arrived by train in San Diego, California in the afternoon, driven by bus, accompanied by Attorney E.E. Kirk and his wife, and taken at once to the U.S. Grant Hotel, followed by an aggressive mob. An angry crowd of 2,000 surrounded Emma Goldman's hotel; although she later admitted to fearing for her safety, she still refused police protection and declined to leave the city. Ben Reitman, separated from Emma Goldman by a ruse, was taken from the hotel by vigilantes, under police protection, to La Penasquitos ranch, about twenty miles north of San Diego, tarred and "sagebrushed" with the letters IWW burned into his back-side with a cigar. Ben Reitman was also forced to kiss the American flag and sing the Star Spangled Banner. Emma Goldman, finding Ben Reitman gone and having been told that he had been sent ahead to Los Angeles, boarded a train for Los Angeles, in the middle of the night.

Mayor refused requests to prevent Emma Goldman from speaking, but assigned police to her meetings to prevent an outbreak of trouble.

Texas deputies attacked a group of PLM supporters led by J.M. Rangel on their way to Mexico, killing Silvestre Lomas. The PLM supporters took two deputies as hostages during the assault.

An armed band captured and arrested all 14 members of the PLM group on charges of the murder of one of the deputies. The whole group was convicted, Rangel was sentenced to 99 years and Charles Cline, an American IWW member, was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Strike began in Colorado by miners working for the John D. Rockefeller owned Colorado Fuel and Iron. Organized by the United Mine Workers Association, miners moved their families to union tent colonies in the countryside away from mining camps.

Emma Goldman moved to larger house at 74 East 119th Street, a ten-room house, with a parlor large enough to accommodate the seating of 100 people. Ben Reitman's mother, in poor health, moved inbriefly and left as conflicts between her and Emma Goldman grew. M. Eleanor Fitzgerald moved in, acted as secretary, and Rhoda Smith acted as housekeeper.

Colorado National Guards volleyed machine-gun fire into the union tent village in Ludlow, Colorado. Tents were set on fire. At least five miners, twelve children and two women were killed. The event led to a series of demonstrations against the Rockefeller family at their home in Tarrytown, New York, and to further violence in Colorado as hundreds of miners took up arms and attacked mines.

Anarchist Rebecca Edelsohn arrested for disorderly conduct at an Anti-War meeting at Franklin Statue, New York City. She was sentenced to a bond of $300 to keep the peace for ninety days. She refused and was sentenced to ninety days in the workhouse. Edelsohn then declared a hunger strike, becoming the first American political prisoner to declare a hunger strike in order to protest the injustice of her sentence. The Free Speech League took up her case after 48 hours and she was released upon the application for a new trial.

Upton Sinclair and his wife organized a "Silent Parade" in Tarrytown, New York in front of Rockefeller's New York Standard Oil offices to protest the Ludlow massacre, with Arthur Caron and Leonard D. Abbott among the marchers. Sinclair was arrested along with four women.

Emma Goldman scheduled to speak on the drama in Denver, at a local Jewish meeting. Upton Sinclair paid his fine and was released from the Tombs Prison. Alexander Berkman, Rebecca Edelsohn, and others take part in an International May Day celebration at Mulberry Bend Park under the auspice of the Anti-Militarist League. Alexander Berkman makes speech criticizing Rockefeller for his part in Ludlow massacre and urges a general strike, many carry banners linking Ludlow to Mexico. The demonstration ended in a procession to Union Square where they joined socialists in a mass revolutionary demonstration.

Explosion on Lexington Avenue in New York City killed Arthur Caron, Carl Hanson, Charles Berg, and Marie Chavez. The three men were apparently planning to bomb John D. Emma Goldman arrived in Eureka, California with Ben Reitman. She lectured in the evening at Woodman Hall, Arcata, California. Rally and public funeral meeting of anarchists and others in Union Square, New York City, to mourn deaths of Arthur Caron, Charles Berg, and Carl Hanson. Speakers included Alexander Berkman, Leonard Abbott, Rebecca Edelsohn, and Elizabeth Gurley Flynn. A telegram of solidarity was sent by Emma Goldman and Ben Reitman. It was a politically charged event with 1,000 policemen on hand.
